It’s hard to explain that I am “different” from other trainers.  What I can do is generalize what other people have to offer and then contrast that with what I do in my training practice.

Most, not all, dog training companies offer “basic obedience”.  They teach you how to train your dog to sit and to lay down; very basic stay commands and what I consider a “pseudo” recall.  They usually label their classes as a “good manners” class.  There is NOTHING wrong with the training that they offer.  However, the vast majority of these trainers are not well versed in “high functioning obedience”.  This means they don’t often offer training that will get your dog to a reliable off-leash level.  If you want a dog that WILL listen to you, more often than not, you will not get this kind of reliability from trainers that push “all-love” training.  As I said, this is a generalization.  How do I know?  Because I have had enough dogs come to me that have been through other training classes to know what the results are.

I have trained thousands of dogs.  Dog training is my profession, not my hobby.  I live, eat, and breathe dog.

Over the past decade I have developed an extremely comprehensive training program that effectively teaches dog owners how to train their dogs, from reliable pet obedience to competitive obedience.  First it is about understanding basic dog behaviour and communication.  There is a lot to it, but the main, and most important points, are easy to learn and give you the tools to communicate with your dog.  Once you can communicate, you can establish leadership and bring harmony to your pack.  Then it’s time to start obedience training.

Obedience training your dog is literally like enrolling yourself into a course that will teach you a skill, like playing the piano.  Your dog is learning how to execute commands.  He has to learn what it is you want from him and then he needs to apply that knowledge to everyday life.  You need to effectively teach him the confidence and self control to continue to obey a command, even when there is something he would rather be doing (chasing a cat, sniffing a bush, engaging with other dogs).  Your dog will learn to respect what you want from him and in turn you can give him freedoms that you have only dreamed of.

I know that, to the average pet dog owner, reliable obedience seems like a nearly impossible goal; especially if your dog is already frustrating you.  But if you are shown the way and guided through a structured process, you will achieve the obedient dog that lays waiting for you outside the coffee shop, or the dog that doesn’t have to be tied up at your campsite because he knows the boundaries and just doesn’t leave.  This is possible for nearly all dogs, not just a select few.

You CAN train your dog.  Your dog CAN learn to obey your commands when he is under heavy distraction.  The question is how bad do you want it?  It is true that it takes time.  But not as much time as you might think. It's true that it takes work and dedication.  But it's fun to train your dog and it's encouraging to see continual progress that you two are making. No, your dog does not learn by osmosis.  You do have to actively train him several times a week in order to achieve the result you are looking for. BUT, with the extensive training manuals that I have written and "perfected" (ha ha, I am always tweaking them), you will maintain your momentum and achieve goals each time you train your dog.  The manuals really set my training programs apart from other training programs.  They give people achievable goals and the ability to peak head and see where they will be weeks or months down the road.

So, with all that said...
