Remote Trainers
So,
you made it to the remote trainer's page. You are at least curious
about them or you wouldn't be here. Seriously Dogs offers top
quality remote training collars for sale and for rent. However,
let's look a little more in-depth at the myths and misconceptions that
surround remote trainers before you scroll down to see what we offer. So
many people voice their frustrations about their dog's behaviours to us.
Almost every day, Kathy and I hear the same story; "My dog ran
away from me and wouldn't come back. I had to chase him all over
and finally someone grabbed him for me. He knows what I want him
to do! Why won't he listen to me?"
First
it is important to realize that dogs need proper training and
leadership. Once this has been established (our Beginners
Obedience course will give you the skills you need to achieve this),
dogs become much easier to live with and handle. This
doesn't mean that they will be perfect when off their leash. Most
dogs know the difference between off-leash and on-leash. They
will obey when they are on the leash but the moment the leash comes
off, their ears begin to malfunction. This malfunction of the ear
can cause real distress for the loving dog owner, who is now in a panic
because the dog won't obey commands. Dog's that refuse to obey
trained commands can end up injuring themselves, someone else or even
worse....DEAD.
Myth # 1 - Remote Training Collars are Cruel. Probably
the most prevalent myth about remote training collars is that they are
cruel and inhumane. Quite simply this is not true. Remote
training collars are very safe and very effective when used in the
right manner. When people think "shock collar" it evokes
visions of 120 volt electric shocks like that out of a household outlet
or the electric stimulation of a cattle fence. This is not farther
from the truth. The stimulation from a remote trainer is a static
charge like the shock you get from rubbing your feet on the floor and
touching a door knob.
The
idea is communication with your dog, not necessisarily to make the
stimulation painful. When using a remote training collar you work
the dog at the lowest stimulation level that the dog responds to.
When stimulated you want to create a look of curiosity as if the
dog were saying "Hey, what was that?" Through conditioning, the
dog learns that you are in control of the stimulation and that it is
applied as a consequence to inappropriate behaviours, such as disobeying
trained commands.
Myth #2 - Remote Training Collars Can Burn a Dog's Neck The
stimulation that remote training collars are capable of outputting is
NOT high enough to physically burn a dog even if it is set on the
highest level for a long period of time. This myth does come from
the following problem: When a remote training collar is not fit
properly, the probes have the potential to rub back and forth wearing
hair away and potentially leaving a friction mark on the dogs skin.
Everyone has had a blister or rub mark from shoes that didn't
fit. It is the same concept with the collar.
So
many people are afraid of the unknown and condemn remote training
collars as a result of pure ignorance. When used properly with a
proper training program they are, in my personal opinion, one of the
best, if not the
best, training tool available on the market. The result is a dog
that can be trusted to be free and off-leash. How can being able
to trust your dog to obey command so he can have the freedom to run and
play without the worry of losing him be a bad thing?
Truly, we encourage you to come down to the shop and physically feel the stimulation of a remote trainer.
***Note:
Seriously Dogs Inc. will not sell a remote training collar to
anyone who has not completed our Beginners Obedience training course.
We reserve the right not to sell remote training collars to
individuals who we feel have not properly trained their dog or put in
the required time and effort it takes to obedience train their dog.***

Multi-Vet Spray Commander
A
remote training system that uses a spray correction instead of a static
charge. The spray is a high powered mist that shoots out past the
dog's face. This is an effective correction for dogs that are
extremely sensitive or have weak nerves. It is a great training
tool for use around the house. You can easily correct barking, sealing,
jumping, digging etc. with in a 250 foot range.
Price: $162
Working
on the same principal as the spray commander, the Deluxe Aniti-Bark
spray collar uses a high powered mist to correct undesirable barking.
The Anti-Bark Spray Collar is automated, picks up the sound of
your dog's bark and automatically corrects it without the need of a
handheld transmitter. Leave the collar on when you are not home to
correct unwanted barking, or in the car while you are driving.
